Lenz's Law Demonstrator
Demonstrate Lenz's Law with this simple device. A glass and aluminum tube, of same dimensions, are suspended by spring scales. A magnetic slug is dropped through the aluminum tube, observing an increase in "weight" of tube from scale. Explanation: when dropped, magnetic slug induces a current, creating an opposing magnetic field to slug's, causing slug to slow and increasing "weight" of aluminum tube. Glass tube may be used as a reference using similar slug. Includes scales, aluminum and glass tube, magnetic and non-magnetic slugs and plastic clamp.
